First sold in December of 1934 as a road going four seater, now a beautifully refinished historic racecar, this MG has enjoyed a unique metamorphous. Thorough detailing and professional track support has brought this example to exceptional standards with concourse level cosmetics and very competitive lap times.
In the late 1950s this chassis was acquired by Ross McCall and his father, both well known VCSS members and MG collectors. The McCalls had intentions of rebuilding the car to full K3 specifications, a shortened version of the K- Type with a factory modified and supercharged engine. Mr. McCall's idea was to replicate the Reg Parnell car which started life as a K3 chassis, but, similar to the course sin KN 0336 followed, was modified to a single seat format and raced very successfully at Brookland and other European circuits pre-war. This car became very famous and is still racing in VSCC events in England.
The McCalls acquired a spare front axle assembly from the Parnell car, a wonderful piece of engineering. The body was finished some time in the early 1960s, and period photos of the body in bare metal are available with the car. Unfortunately, the McCalls never managed to finish the project and it languished in England for decades before landing in the hands of the Very capable Mike Jones, well known in the pre-war circle. Mr. Jones spent a further 2 years completing the restoration and finishing it in what is now concourse condition.
In its current configuration the car is fitted with a 1500cc KN 6cyl engine paired to a Marshall K200 supercharger. Power is fed through an Armstrong pre-selector four speed gearbox and K3 rear axle with a limited slip. ERA C Type, 14.5-inch hydraulic brakes are fitted, as is a high ratio steering box (1.75 turns, lock to lock).
The MG has been rebuilt to the exact specifications of the highly successful Parnell MG R-Type, and was issued VSCC papers as such. It would be welcome with any historic racing series here in the US, including General Racing which hosts the notable Monterey Histories and the Wine County Classic. The shorter, tighter tracks of the West Coast favor the lighter, small bore, pre-war cars, and we could expect this car to be competitive among the Alfa P3s, 8C Monza, and ERAs. It has recently turning laps in the 1: 12 bracket at Lime Rock Park. All this, at a very small percentage of the cost of the competition's cars!

Just one test day has been competed since being prepared for the 2006 season. A new methanol fuel cell has been fitted. Absolutely no expense has been spared. The car is ready to be driven and enjoyed by its new owner. With the car comes several letters, documents, and photos relating the conversion, restoration, and early history.
